Look what 16th Century Reformation Day started

Could the result of today’s sharp divisions in human society in the ‘free world’ lead to an historic reformation matching the one beginning in 1517?

The last day of October is Reformation Day in some protestant circles. It’s obscured in our misguided culture by the more modern celebration of ‘Halloween.’ But election day in America is just around the corner, a few days later on the first Tuesday of November.

The 31st of October each year began to be celebrated as Reformation Day in the late 17th century, a hundred years after a turning point event. It all began when a passionate 34-year-old Catholic priest nailed his 95 critiques of Catholic controversial practices onto the church door in a town called Wittenberg Germany in the Holy Roman Empire. His name was Martin Luther.

Ten years earlier, Luther was ordained in 1507, and earned a doctorate in theology from the University of Wittenberg in 1512. Then he became a professor of biblical studies. But it was his own personal theological crisis regarding salvation that led him to his discovery of the Bible concept of justification by faith alone. That culminated in his 1517 publication of the Ninety-five Theses which challenged the sale of indulgences by Catholic promoters of the renovation of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. And that sparked the revolution that became the Protestant Reformation. It changed the world and culminated in generations of wars and the redirection of the history of Western nations.

Righteous Bold Lions fight for Godly Freedom

Proverbs 28:1 tells us that “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” … It goes on to say in verse 2, “When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.”

What a thought-provoking observation of contrasts! Do you see it? The upstanding Righteous leaders who are bold as a lion… are as different from the wicked who are fearfully looking over their shoulders, because of all the wicked deeds that have earned them many enemies… as the wise, discerning, and organized ruler is peculiarly distinct from the multitude of bureaucratic rulers of a land of cowering rebels.

Benjamin Franklin wrote that “A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.”

When you return from a day at work, or out shopping, or driving on the highways, or just interacting with the general public, would you say that the God-fearing, morally pure population of your country is “flourishing” and increasing in authority over the land?

Remember… all that must happen for evil to flourish in a culture is for the good people to keep quiet and do nothing. Light dispels darkness. It’s not the other way around.

It’s no wonder the enemy of humankind successfully deceives so many to think they should just let their little light be hid under a ‘basket’ and cower in the shadows of the evil influences. That’s how to keep low-information voters in the dark, ignorant, and fear-filled by whatever demonic deception they think they can’t overcome by faith in the Giver of all good things from above.

The Truth About America’s Founding Fathers

As a lifelong student of the fascinating stories of America’s legendary heroes, from the Pilgrims to the Patriots, I discovered an interesting intersection with Holy Scripture. Just as the Bible has its notable heroes of faith and God-given courage in the eleventh chapter of the Book of Hebrews in the Bible, so also does the history of America have its heroes of courage and faith in its God-given deliverance from tyranny. And both have had their detractors and skeptics. They continually try to steer generations of young students away from confidence in the truthful place of those heros in the record of Almighty God’s providence in His redemption of the human race.

Accusations to disparage the Founding Fathers are common in the world of fallen mankind. You’ve likely heard slanderous assertions that the Founding Fathers were a bunch of atheists, agnostics, and deists wanting a strict separation of church and state – nothing less than a secular government and a secular public with barely any Biblical values. While their charges are shamefully false, no one is suggesting that all the early American leaders were devoted Christians (though most of them were). The vast majority of Founding Fathers wrote openly, and often, about the influence of Christianity, the Bible and Jesus on their personal lives. Americas 250 years of Divine Providence – Celebrated in a time of Conflict and Reflection

It’s now been over 250 years that the people of the American republic have enjoyed the blessings of being a free and self-governing nation. And it all began with the convictions of the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence. Have you heard those words lately? They were deeply believed by every single patriotic American in 1776. But, no matter how patriotic each one of us might sincerely think we are today, I have to humbly admit that there’s almost no way any of us today can fully grasp the sobering reality and risk those men faced.

Knowing what was written in that document, about to be made public the next day, John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail that the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July 1776 would become the most memorable date in American history. He expected it to be celebrated annually by future generations as a great anniversary festival and day of deliverance. He believed the holiday should be marked by solemn devotion to God and public festivities including pomp and parade, shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations across the continent from this time forward forever more.

The devoutly Christian John Adams deeply believed that the founding generation of America sacrificed their prosperity, safety, and peace of mind deliberately for the purpose of establishing liberty in their land. Doing that was unquestionably a God-given blessing to his generation. But he also had a deep sense that there was a significant risk that unborn generations would take these privileges for granted. Adams feared that without a deep appreciation for the moral burden and hardships endured by his contemporaries, future Americans might fail to uphold the Constitution and the republican values they secured. He made it very clear that this sacrifice was not for any personal gain for any of the Founders. It was only to ensure that their sons and their descendants would have the liberty to pursue useful understanding of things like mathematics, philosophy, and the arts without the constant burden of war and political strife.

God-orchestrated courage produced the Declaration of Independence – it is producing New Awakening

All 56 patriots who signed the Declaration took their duties so seriously to the people of the new nation that they made a promise “with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.” They signed the Declaration of Independence knowing that the penalty would be death if they were captured, and that pledge could literally cost them their lives and fortunes.

Many pastors who avoid debatable or political/social topics, claim they are ‘just called to preach the gospel.’ Others avoid contemporary arguments in society by sticking to their preaching and teaching schedule. When we wonder “why is all this evil upon our nation?” We can easily see that the general eradication of the godly influence of God’s people is because we have forsaken the commission of the Lord to be salt and light… to overcome evil with good… to expose the darkness of our own communities… to rescue those who are perishing because of the evil that is allowed to prevail. So, it isn’t a bad idea to pray about where you can be involved with the work God is doing through his soldiers who are courageous to do all they can to stand against the ‘gates of hell’ as only the Ekklesia is enabled by our risen Lord to do so.

Spiritual Warfare in a Corrupt Society

Critical times require critical thinking. The art of Biblical war absolutely hinges on knowing the patterns of God’s unchanging nature. The wisdom of those patterns are clear directions… but they’ve been obscured by teachings that have been labeled as “post-modern Christianity.” Remember God’s clear direction to Joshua? He was assigned the leadership of Israel’s armed and trained young men as they crossed the Jordan, preparing to conquer Canaan.

Strangers in a Foreign Land

An analogy that can help us see the bigger picture more clearly is to think of inviting people into your own home. Let’s say that you work hard and you have two spare bedrooms. Your refrigerator is full of food and though your budget is tight, you can pay your bills. Now let’s add a small family from another country to your household who lives in one of your spare rooms. They don’t speak your language. They eat your food, use your bathrooms, produce trash, and as they gradually learn English, they tell you that they want to bring more people into your home. What do you do? How long could you support them before your own economic resources are depleted and the stress and strain upon your home becomes unbearable? The truth is that we all practice border security at the home level.
Liberals are great at inviting illegals into other peoples’ homes and rewarding them with citizenship, catering to their language and culture, and granting them voting privileges – which are used to keep the leftists in power. They don’t really feel the effects of their decisions that impact others. After all, they’re in political control and can vote themselves raises, medical benefits, protection, and other such amenities. Liberals don’t feel the financial burden that a sudden onslaught of illegal immigrants brings to our economy and local regions, and how it takes away jobs from those who are legal citizens as well as puts a financial burden on infrastructure and services within our country.
