There are plenty of Scriptural parallels in God’s recorded history of His people to give us ample insights to the challenges of our generation today. Like God’s gift to the sons of Issachar in first Chronicles 12:32, we desire to have the insight of “understanding the times, to know what Israel – or God’s people today – ought to do.”
In previous episodes of Reclaiming Your Legacy, we’ve seen plenty of encouraging insight the Bible gives us to ‘choose this day to serve God’ as Joshua admonished the successful generation of Israel after the conquest of Canaan. His call is clear to be courageous warriors like David and his mighty men. We must be active watchmen on the wall for our generation as Ezekiel spells out so clearly. With our Lord’s help, we all must chose to courageously refuse to bow to lies. With the boldness of the Holy Spirit filling us, we can expose demonic deeds of darkness, rather than participate with those who have been deceived.
In today’s world it’s becoming increasingly apparent even to unbelievers that true Christians will obey God rather than corrupted governors, in order to influence their nation rightly.
Why, in 1620, did the little congregation of Pastor John Robinson’s English Christ followers, whom we call Pilgrims, risk their lives to leave their native land to become unintended pioneers of an untamed wilderness in North America? In a word, the motivation was tyranny – Religious tyranny.
Why, in 1776, did 30% of the British colonists in America risk their lives to declare what no people on earth had ever done to resist the monarch who dominated their private lives? Again, their motivation was tyranny – tyranny of their conscience.

For some of us as Christ-followers, our memorable epiphany might be the time when we woke up to the realization that Jesus Christ truly is The Creator, “without whom nothing was made that was made.” John spelled out Jesus as “the Word,” Who declared “let there be light” in the opening verses of his gospel in the Bible.
Staring in the face of lifetime bondage, does choice still exist to gain knowledge of truth?
One of America’s prominent founding fathers was medical Dr. Benjamin Rush. He gave us an important statement about his view of medical or health freedom. Commenting on Dr Rush, a late 19th century medical doctor honored the memory of this great physician, noting that he proved himself to be a great champion of medical liberty. He urged that the Constitution of the United States should not only provide for religious freedom but also for medical freedom. Dr Rush, in his 18th century manner of speaking English, conveyed the idea that “Laws restricting the practice of the healing arts to one class of physicians and denying to others equal privileges, would constitute the Bastilles of our science.”
